Recipients of the Nobel Prize for Literature, the Booker, the makers of the most famous dramatic texts of the twentieth century, and the most prominent creators and technicians in the world and the Arab region, will meet during the period from 3 to 13 November, on one platform, at the 40th session of the Sharjah International Book Fair, to celebrate the land Sharjah with the public of knowledge and writers with the slogan (Here.. you have a book), surrounded by millions of books presented by more than 1566 Arab and foreign publishers, from 83 countries.

A capacity of 80% of scheduled visits per day, taking into account all precautionary measures.  

Over the course of 11 days, Expo Center Sharjah will turn into a global carnival of books, creativity, art and theater, as the exhibition organized by the Sharjah Book Authority, in which efforts to recover the publishing industry in the world are led, brings together 85 writers from 22 countries, and organizes more than 970 seminars, creative workshops, presentations, evenings and dialogues. .

The exhibition conveys the history of thousands of years of Spanish art and literature to the UAE and the Arab region, where it celebrates Spain, the guest of honor for its new session, hosting 41 Spanish writers, artists and creators in an open dialogue with the Arab cultural scene, embodied in 25 activities and events distributed on literature and arts of all kinds.

 In a press conference held by the authority at the House of Wisdom today, Wednesday, Ahmed bin Rakad Al Ameri, Chairman of the Sharjah Book Authority, spoke;

He said that the exhibition celebrates the knowledge and creative achievements that humanity offers


. Al Ameri added: “From the efforts of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, and his belief in the message of the Sharjah Civilization Project, which began more than forty years ago, we learned many essential lessons, The most important of them: that every achievement we aspire to, and every change we work to achieve, starts from a book, and every dialogue we open with the other starts from a book, and that our understanding of our history and our present starts from a book.

He added: “The fortieth session of the exhibition constitutes a milestone through which we want the exhibition to be a driver for the publishing industry in the world, a catalyst for new readers of various interests, and a trigger for shifts in publishers’ orientations, meeting the needs of new readers, and at the same time, it invites writers and researchers in the region and the world. To expand their areas of interest, the exhibition will continue to celebrate the cognitive and creative achievements of humanity.”

This year's pavilions bring together 929 Arab publishing houses and 637 foreign publishing houses, displaying 110 thousand titles in various languages ​​of the world, over an area of ​​more than ten thousand meters.

Topping the list of participants is the Arab Republic of Egypt with 295 publishing houses, the UAE with 250 publishing houses, the UK will also have 138 publishing houses, Lebanon 112 houses, the Syrian Arab Republic 93 houses, and Jordan 76 houses.

Among the most prominent participating foreign publishing houses, 87 from India, 48 from the United States of America, 26 from Italy, 16 from Canada and Brazil, 14 from Spain, 12 from Mexico and France.

For the first time, 9 countries are participating in the exhibition: Colombia, South Sudan, Cameroon, Kenya, Malawi, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda and Zimbabwe.

The cultural program


The course hosts a group of the brightest literary, artistic and cultural figures, as more than 85 writers from 22 countries gathered on the exhibition grounds. The agenda of this edition includes 440 cultural events, presented by a group of creators in various fields.

Taleb Al-Rifai.. Cultural Personality of the Year


In its new session, the exhibition celebrates the Kuwaiti novelist Taleb Al-Rifai, the cultural personality of the year for the exhibition, in appreciation of his creative career in writing novels, short stories, literary criticism, teaching the arts of creative writing, and his role in renewal in Gulf literature and conveying the aesthetics of the place and the depth of culture its people, and building a bridge of communication between the Arab cultural movement and its Western counterpart during more than three continuous decades.

The artist Mohamed Sobhi, the poet Faisal Al-Adwani, the writer and jewelry designer Azza Fahmy, Dr. Medhat Al-Adl, the writer and historian His Excellency Dr. Ali Al-Namla, Dr. Ahmed Emara, Jalal Barjas, the poet and former Minister of Culture Haider Mahmoud, and the artist Ahmed Al Jasmi.

The Spain program - the guest of honor of the session - includes the presentation of 25 cultural activities and events aimed at introducing visitors to the exhibition about Spanish culture, presented by 41 Spanish guests. La Casa de Papel, Gabe Martinez, Irene Sola, Fernando Marias, Maite Mutopria, Cary Santos, Rossio Bonilla.

A group of Spanish artists will present a musical play entitled "La Caramba", which revolves around (Maria Antonia Fernandez), whose life was dealt with by artists and writers in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, to become a distinguished figure in the history of Spanish art.

Children's Activities


This year, the exhibition presents 355 activities, presentations and workshops on various topics related to children, with the participation of specialists from 9 countries.

During this session, the exhibition will organize 80 shows, distributed between plays, dance performances, mobile shows, and singing symphonies, presented by participants from 9 countries.

Among the most prominent theatrical performances: the Kuwaiti play “The Rabbits”, in which Badr Al-Shuaibi, Fahd Al-Bannai, Hanadi Al-Kandari, Fahd Al-Saleh, Ghorar Safar and Ahmed bin Hussein participate.

Social


Media Platform Participants in the social networking platform will present more than 11 workshops specialized in social networking sites dealing with various topics, including: trends and updates of social media platforms, writing creative content, and others.

“Publishers Conference”


The exhibition will host the 11th edition of the “Publishers Conference”, which will host a selection of workers and specialists in the publishing sector, to identify the most important issues concerned with the advancement of this industry, in cooperation with the International Publishers Association, over a period of three days from October 31 to Next November 2, at the Expo Center Sharjah,


with the participation of 520 publishers, including 201 Arabs, 319 foreigners, and 35 speakers from around the world, they will present 8 sessions and 3 introductory meetings that bring together publishers.

The authority announced the holding of the eighth session of the Library Conference in partnership with the American Library Association.

The Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain to the UAE, Ennio de Palacio, said: "The Sharjah International Book Fair is the largest and most important book fair in the Arab world, and we are pleased that our participation in the fair will not only represent Spain, but will represent more than 450 million Spanish-speaking people around the world." .
