Tuesday afternoon, a building collapsed in the heart of Dieppe (Seine-Maritime), reports Les Informations Dieppoises.

The municipality had been alerted earlier by a craftsman who had noticed signs of weakness of a beam in this 18th century building.

An expert appointed by the town hall had confirmed the imminent danger.

A security perimeter had therefore been set up around the building by the firefighters and the police and the inhabitants had been evacuated.

In total, four buildings have been prohibited from entering the street and 12 people will have to be relocated.

"I saw the firefighters and the municipal police officers running away very quickly," said a merchant to France 3 Normandie.

There was a huge cloud of smoke with quite impressive noise.

The walls of my bar shook.

In the space of ten seconds it had fallen ”

Thick smoke in the neighborhood

No injuries were to be deplored, but the collapse created thick smoke in the neighborhood.

The town hall called on a security company to secure the premises and prevent looting, while it was time to clear the land.

It is necessary that "the life resumes as quickly as possible", indicated to Dieppe Information the mayor Nicolas Langlois.
