Friday and Saturday, the commemorations of the assassination of teacher Samuel Paty will take place in a particular context.

On the one hand, the trial of the attacks of November 13, 2015 at the Paris courthouse, but also a more general context of the entry into force of the law against separatism.

For all these reasons, Gérald Darmanin called on the prefects on Thursday to “total vigilance”.

"It is advisable to prevent any act which could be committed in response to this attack and these commemorations", writes in a telegram the Minister of the Interior.

He adds that the “Sentinel forces, in connection with the military authority, could usefully be mobilized around educational establishments”.

On October 16, 2020, the history and geography professor Samuel Paty, aged 47, was stabbed and then beheaded, in a street near the college where he was teaching in Conflans-Saint-Honorine (Yvelines), by a radicalized Chechen refugee who reproached him for having shown caricatures of Muhammad in class.

The 18-year-old assassin was killed shortly after by police.
