A living legend of Korean musicals, an actor whose only life is musical. Actor Choi Jung-won, who returned to the musical Billy Elliot, joins us.

Q. Corona epidemic… How do you feel about the audience filling the seats?

[Choi Jeong-won/Musical Actor: First of all, even though there are a lot of seats in the audience now, I always seem to be full. And the bright smile that the audience sees through the masks and the encouragement and support they send to us through applause seems to be much bigger than before, so actually, each and every one of them is more precious than before I thought of making a day of hugging and hugging.]

Q. Musical 'Billy Elliot'… what kind of work is it?

[Choi Jeong-won/Musical Actor: Billy Elliot, the musical, has the same content as the movie. And just like in the movie, it is the story of a boy in a very remote coal mining village farthest from London. This boy, who lives with his father and older brother and grandmother, is more interested in ballet than masculine sports, and has a natural talent for it. It's such a wonderful growing up musical that makes this child's dream come true. In fact, this work is a really warm family love story.]

Q. How does it feel to be with the child actors?

[Choi Jeong-won/Musical Actor: We are called young actors, but on stage, we received too much training first, so we can't have a concentric plus, and I've never seen a tired figure like the trained Olympic athletes coming out of the body. In particular, Billy roles almost never come off the stage and almost dominate the stage except during costume changes, but the energy that comes out of the stage is so good, so the adult actors practice a lot. even before the show. So, as the episodes continue now, it seems that not only child actors but also adult actors are growing more.]

Q. What would you like to say to 'Billy' in the musical world?

[Choi Jeong-won/Musical Actor: First of all, I want to tell the future musical stars who have dreamed of a musical that I made a really good choice. And don't be impatient, and I believe that your dream has come true because your dream will come true. I want to tell you that I hope you love the process of making those dreams come true one by one.]

Q. A daughter who works as a singer… Do you also try musicals?

[Choi Jeong-won/Musical Actor: First of all, I love watching performances. I have been watching my performances almost every time since I was 7 years old, and every time I watch it, my mother is on stage so much that my heart explodes. Be it Velma Kelly from Chicago or Donna from Mamma Mia, so moms keep changing. I think the child is getting a little bit stimulated by seeing that.]

Q. The musical 'Chicago'... What does it mean to you?

[Choi Jung-won/Musical Actor: This is a work that gave me tremendous courage after giving birth.

Its premiere in Korea was in 2000.

As soon as I had a child, I started participating in this work again, and in 2000 and the next season, and in the next season, I performed as Laxia.

Since 2007, I have been meeting with audiences now in the role of Velma Kelly, and just being able to play a two-top female lead in one work is really a very, very, very great honor for me.

And although there are many genres in musicals, I think it is really Chicago that dance, singing and acting are all divided into almost equal distribution.

That’s why I can continue to take care of myself and I think it gives me the strength to walk 10,000 steps once every two days.]

Q. Do you have any more goals or dreams you want to achieve in the future?

[Choi Jung-won/Musical Actor: I will work hard for the performance that will be held today and tomorrow, so that even one audience member has to warm their hearts and give love to their families.

It is my dream to become a wonderful actor who can become 80 years old by accumulating those days.]
