A thread from feminist activist Anna Toumazoff

At the end of September, feminist activist Anna Toumazoff questioned the Montpellier police station, in a thread on Twitter and in a story on Instagram, in their care for victims of rape.

“At the central police station in Montpellier, we ask rape victims if they have enjoyed.

[…] We explain to rape victims that a person who has been drinking is necessarily consenting, ”the activist wrote in particular, referring to the complaint of a young woman.

Other testimonies were then reported on social networks, implicating the police station.

The prefect, Hugues Moutouh, had condemned "with firmness" these remarks which he considers "defamatory".

The Hérault police, for their part, denounced remarks which "do not reflect reality at all.

Protecting victims is our job.

In 2021, the cell specializing in rape cases handled 282 complaints, 83 people were taken into police custody.

According to the police, "all victims are greeted, heard and referred with professionalism.

All investigations are carried out with impartiality (…).

Our premises are open 24/7.

"

Sunday, a demonstration took place in front of the Montpellier police station, to denounce the care of victims of rape by the police.
