Nine days have passed since Lars Vilks and two police officers died in a car crash outside Markaryd in Småland.

The last few days have been a lot about what will happen to Vilk's most famous works: the caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad as a patrol dog and his giant building Nimis in Kullaberg's nature reserve in Skåne.

Right now there is uncertainty about who actually owns Lars Vilk's art.

“There is a clarification going on about who is the owner of the estate and thus responsible for the estate.

This is not clear ", writes Stefan Sintéus, police area manager in Malmö in a text message to Kulturnyheterna.

Difficult to get in touch with the police

The artist Fredrik Larsson was a close friend of Lars Vilks.

He is deeply involved in the work with Nimis and had the role of Minister of Arts and Jumps in the micronation and sculpture park Ladonien in Kullaberg, which Lars Vilks declared an independent state in 1996.

In the last week, he has been trying to get answers to his questions.

- It is not so easy to discuss with the police.

They have a level of security that is far beyond the ordinary.

We need to get hold of Ladonia's registers and databases on Lars' computer, clarify the details of the physical works and find out who will take care of the art.

- Lars is gone and we do not know if anything has been written, did he have any plans for his art?

Planning to start an art association

An alternative is for Lars Vilk's friends and colleagues to take over responsibility for the art, says Fredrik Larsson.

He has far-reaching plans to start an art association to manage Vilk's work.

First and foremost, it's about Nimis, which requires a lot of maintenance.

But the group is no stranger to taking care of the rest of the catalog, including the patrol dogs - in case no major art institution shows interest in the work.

- We are looking at that very much now.

Everyone knows Lars and knows how he reasons art theory.

I do not want to go out with any names, but there are at least three people at present who each have a wide network of contacts.

Located in Poland

The guide dog is currently at the State Modern Museum Sztuki Współczesnej in Warsaw.

It is included, together with other works by Vilks, in the controversial exhibition "Political Art" which runs until 16 January.

What happens to art when the exhibition is over?

- Great question, I do not know.

That's one thing we need to look at.

Everything must be solved.
