Leg pain portends this serious disease

The German Heart Foundation has warned that leg pain portends a serious "peripheral artery occlusion" disease, in addition to leg coldness, pallor and numbness.

The Foundation explained that this dangerous disease is a form of atherosclerosis that occurs when low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol moves from the blood to settle on the arterial walls, noting that it particularly attacks smokers, diabetics, the elderly and people who suffer from obesity.

The Foundation stressed the need to treat this disease urgently to avoid the severe consequences that it may entail, such as strokes and gangrene.

The side of the peripheral artery blockage is treated with medications, and in some cases, surgery may be required.

In addition, a healthy lifestyle should be followed, based on healthy nutrition, regular exercise and smoking cessation.
