At 24, Caroline Nasica will be releasing her first comic strip

Caro et les zinzins (

 Exemplaire editions).

Originally from Corsica, she grew up in Nice and in this first album reveals "lots of anecdotes" that happened in this city, from her adolescence to now.

With

20 Minutes,

she returns

to her “unexpected” success and the reasons why she will finally be able to tell her father that she is “doing a real job”.

How did the idea to create “Caro et les zinzins” come about?

I don't know if you can say that, but it's almost written in my genes. My mother is an illustrator, my grandmother is a painter. I've always drawn because it's the most natural way for me to express myself. And then, one day, in January 2020, I decided to create an Instagram account for my loved ones, to share with them the anecdotes that I lived on a daily basis in drawing in which they often appear. As the account grew, I got a lot of support and encouragement, especially from well-known authors like Livio. So, at the time of the second confinement, I got started and contacted Lisa Mandel, the founder of the Exemplaire edition house. She told me I was "comic strip rough diamond". All that motivated me to take out

Caro and the goons

 in one year.

As a result, we have just finished the month of crowdfunding and we have exploded the goal.

It was unexpected but in one afternoon it was over.

We reached 356%, that is to say, 920 contributors and more than 28,000 euros.

How to explain this success ?

It's impressive because I'm not a star, there are never any great things happening in my life and yet there are now 15,000 people following me on my account.

I realized that my stories, which seemed personal and out of the ordinary to me, weren't that much when a lot of people started to identify with my adventures.

Because my goal is not to denounce anything, like some of my colleagues.

It's just the life of a 24-year-old woman so, inevitably, at times, it also highlights social problems.

It just goes to show that you're never really alone experiencing incredible stuff.

And it feels good.

The comic will then be able to be released in December.

What will readers be able to find there?

It's a collection of everything there is on Instagram with new stories, with my style that has always remained the same: the black pencil line, quick and simple.

I also reveal anecdotes that are sometimes more secret, others a little more shocking.

Namely, I never lie about what happens to me, I am always as transparent as possible.

If that sounds funny, it's just my character.

It is for this reason that I chose "the zinzins", because the stories and the people who are in them, are zinzins.

How will the rest of the adventure unfold?

It is sure that there will be a volume II, or even more.

As long as there is life, there will be tomes.

I still have a lot of stories to tell.

And then, in addition to the anecdotes, I now formulate questions about my habits, to see if I am the only one experiencing this with the community, I have the impression that I am talking to friends.

Instagram allowed me to have a lot of visibility and it also triggered a lot of projects for

Caro and the goons

, possibly a series or a cartoon.

Afterwards, I would also like to write comics with fiction, always inspired by what I live but with which I could further develop the characters.

How is the idea of making it your main profession perceived by those close to you?

When I was little, I didn't think it would be possible to make a living from comics. At a pinch, it was my plan B. I had said "I want to be a sports teacher and if that doesn't work, I will be a designer". At the time of my studies, art schools disgusted me and I did not touch a pencil for four years. Today, I don't see myself doing anything else. To reassure my family, I still have an artistic director's diploma “just in case”. In addition, I saw that I could get by by offering orders. Customers tell me their stories and I make boards for them, for birthdays for example. Thanks to the Exemplaire publishing house, I will receive more copyright because the very concept is to fight for a better and fairer distribution within the publishing world.
