Thailand will open its borders to fully vaccinated air travelers from abroad from November 1st.

Tourists from ten countries that are considered to be low-risk countries will initially be admitted, as Prime Minister Prayut Chan-O-Cha explained on Monday.

In addition to Germany, these include the USA, China, Great Britain and Singapore.

In December, the regulation is to be extended to other countries.

The condition is that those affected have a negative PCR test on their arrival and have themselves tested again after entry, said Prayut.

"After that, you can travel as freely as Thai people."

Vaccinated tourists are currently quarantined in a hotel for at least seven days.

An exception is the island of Phuket, where vacationers are allowed to move freely and can travel to other regions after a week.

Corona hit Thailand hard

Prayut admitted that the decision could lead to an increase in corona infections.

But it is important to give the people in Thailand an economic perspective again.

The corona pandemic has severely affected the tourism sector, which is important for the Thai economy.

It usually generates almost 20 percent of Thailand's gross domestic product.

Last year, the Southeast Asian kingdom lost around $ 50 billion in revenue due to the lack of holidaymakers from abroad.

So far, Thailand has recorded a total of more than 1.7 million cases of corona infection and over 17,700 deaths.
