Dog mauls a baby to death in Britain

A British father and mother are facing trial after their newborn son was killed by a hunting dog in their home in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, England.

Mother Abigail Ellis, 28, and father Stephen Goins, 36, have denied responsibility for the hunting dog that killed their son Elon when the baby was only 12 days old, according to the British newspaper, The Sun.

The parents denied, in Sheffield Crown Court, today, that they own or take responsibility for the dog, and they have been released on unconditional bail and a new date has been set for the resumption of their trial.

Judge Richardson QC told the parents: "You are obligated by law to provide the court and the prosecution with a statement of defence, this is not just a formality, it is a very important document and any failure to receive it could be against you."
