Teaching work, especially in universities, is a great opportunity for learning. As much as students learn, teachers can also learn a lot from their students, especially if learning is accompanied by reflection and connection with past experiences and experiences. I had the opportunity to meet one of my students who had just finished a master’s degree in digital transformation, a new program that was opened by the university where I work last year, and the dialogue with “Suhail Suroor” was really constructive, the student who came from Pakistan to study in Britain armed with his work and experience with senior International companies in the field of digital consultancy, and the holder of a long list of specialized professional certificates that authorizes him to work in major companies, and because I am the supervisor of his studies, I have known him closely and we have a great intellectual affinity, sometimes I am his mentor and sometimes he is my mentor, especially in technical matters.

Our interview touched on companies that are not able to reach their goals despite the fact that they invest a lot in administrative systems and in obtaining the latest technology, and his view was that the reason for not reaching what those companies should reach is because they neglected the 10%, after they invested all their energy in 90%, and I asked him to explain more, and he said that some companies invest in advanced technology that can achieve many achievements and improve performance, but they do not send the relevant employees to train on this technology, and therefore do not benefit from the huge energies and capabilities of the new system, and another simpler example From that, which is for a person or company to launch a website with very wonderful content, rather as a treasure, but they are satisfied with that and do not invest in listing the site on search engines or the so-called Search Engine Optimization, and he mentioned to me many cases in which he faced and wasted effort and resources Because standing at 90%.I left him thinking about his words and remembered many cases of doctoral students who worked hard and diligently throughout their doctoral journey, but at the last chapter, which is their opportunity to mention recommendations, it is abbreviated and written in a hurry, as it was in one of the theses less than five pages. I also remembered many colleagues who had started important projects, but before the end with a few small steps they gave up and stopped and wasted their efforts.

I remembered the popular Egyptian proverb that says: “He spoils the broth because of a dime of salt,” as if someone prepares a wonderful meal, but does not want to buy salt, even though it is cheap, and therefore all his effort is wasted because of that dime.

Therefore, it is important for us as individuals and for business decision-makers to pay attention to the 10%, because it is the one that will appear or crown the 90%, otherwise the entire effort will be in vain.

This rule can also be applied in social and family relationships, by always making sure to complete the 10%. Sohail drew my attention to this matter and crystallized it for me, and I think I will remember this lesson for a long time, and I wanted to share it with you.

• I remembered the popular Egyptian proverb that says: “He spoils the dish because he has a millimeter of salt.” It was as if someone prepared a wonderful meal, but did not want to buy salt, even though it was cheap.
