The prize went to Filipino journalist Maria Ressa and Russian journalist and editor-in-chief of Novaya Gazeta.

"The Nobel Committee has decided to award the Nobel Peace Prize in 2021 to Maria Ressa and Dmitry Muratov for their efforts to protect freedom of expression, which is a prerequisite for democracy and lasting peace," the committee said.

Earlier it became known that the Nobel Prize in Physics for 2021 was awarded to Shukuro Manabe, Klaus Hasselman and Giorgio Parisi.

Writer Abdulrazak Gurna won the Nobel Prize in Literature.

The Chemistry Prize went to Benjamin List and David Macmillan.
