This year's Nobel Prize in Chemistry goes to Benjamin List from Germany and US researcher David WC MacMillan, who was born in Scotland, for methods to accelerate chemical reactions.

The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences announced on Wednesday in Stockholm.

The Nobel Prize in Chemistry, which has been awarded since 1901, went primarily to American researchers.

The Dutchman Jacobus van't Hoff received the first award for the discovery of the laws of osmosis.

Last year, the genetic researcher Emmanuelle Charpentier (France), who has been working in Germany for years, and Jennifer A. Doudna (USA) received the award for developing gene scissors for targeted genetic modification.

In the coming days, the Nobel Prizes for Literature and Peace and the Business Prize in honor of Alfred Nobel will be awarded.
