A court in Singapore has jailed a maid from the Philippines for a month, after she pleaded guilty to crimes that included filling her family's drinking jug with water from the toilet.

The maid, Jozar Rose Magtanong, 32, was also accused of spitting in drinking water and using the employer's cosmetics, worth hundreds of dollars.

The family, who worked for the accused, discovered the theft incidents after they installed a closed-circuit television monitoring system, according to a court report in the Singapore newspaper "Today".

The maid confessed to the rest of the other crimes after she was threatened with dismissal.

Surveillance cameras showed that the accused was spitting in a jug of drinking water, before the family drank from it.

On the other hand, the defense team of the accused said that she was subjected to ill-treatment, which included confiscating her phone and misfeeding them, in addition to the employer's delay in paying two months of her wages.

Judge Ng Peng Hong told the accused: "If you have any complaints, there are legitimate channels for you (to view), but it is not right for you to do it the way you did."
