The Severe Power of the Severe Eight Immortals in the Anti-epidemic

In April 2020, after discussing the severe, critical and death cases of the day, the eight critically ill experts staying in Wuhan took a photo in the nearby woods.

Eight people stood apart, ensuring a distance of two meters, took off their masks, and looked relaxed.

The photos were posted on the Internet, and screens and hot searches followed one after another, and the term "Severely Ill Eight Immortals" came from this.

After Wuhan, from Beijing to Shijiazhuang, Qingdao, Yunnan, Nanjing and other places, whenever there is an outbreak of an epidemic, one can always see the "severely ill eight immortals".

In their eyes, they are just the epitome of the 19,000 intensive care workers supporting Wuhan, and the representative of the 42,000 medical staff.

Intensive medical care forces gather in Wuhan

In January 2020, the new crown pneumonia epidemic suddenly struck, and Wuhan affected the hearts of the people across the country.

As a medical treatment expert of the Central Steering Group and the National Health Commission, Tong Zhaohui arrived in Wuhan on January 18, and Du Bin, then director of the Department of Internal Medicine and Critical Care Medicine of Peking Union Medical College Hospital, also arrived on the same day.

On the second day, Qiu Haibo, then deputy dean of Zhongda Hospital affiliated to Southeast University, also arrived in Wuhan as a member of the expert group of the Central Guidance Group to Hubei and the expert group of the National Health Commission.

The epidemic has far exceeded expectations, with a large number of cases and a high proportion of severe and critical cases. More people in critical care medicine are also gathering in Wuhan.

Zhao Beilei, chief physician of the Department of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, Eastern Theater General Hospital, received an order to go to Wuhan on the evening of the Lunar New Year's Eve in 2020. At 8 am on the second day of the new year, he had boarded the high-speed train to Wuhan, which was closed. On the third day, Zhao Beilei became the only passenger on the bus to get off in Wuhan.

The next day, Zhao Beilei began to enter the ward to save the patient.

He was assigned to Zhongnan Hospital, starting from patrolling the intensive care unit, discussing and determining the treatment plan with his colleagues.

At the beginning of Wuhan, Zhao Beilei told her family every day that she was safe through short phone calls, "Everything is fine", "I have eaten", and he would hang up without a few words.

His wife and daughter wanted to make a video call. Zhao Beilei, who was still busy, refused with various excuses. He said that he was not in the mood at the time, and he was also afraid to say too much. His wife and daughter would worry about themselves even more, which he did not want to see. of.

About a week later, Zhao Beilei started video calls with his wife and daughter at eight or nine o'clock every evening.

From January 23 to February 7, Zheng Ruiqiang, deputy dean of Subei People’s Hospital, Jiang Li, director of the Department of Critical Care Medicine, Xuanwu Hospital of Capital Medical University, Guan Xiangdong, director of the Department of Critical Care Medicine of the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University, and West China Hospital of Sichuan University Kang Yan, director of the Department of Critical Care Medicine, rushed to Wuhan one after another, where the "Eight Immortals of Critical Diseases" gathered.

Jinyintan Hospital, Wuhan Pulmonary Hospital, Wuhan University Zhongnan Hospital... They traveled to all designated hospitals in Wuhan, inspected the wards, settled in, discussed treatment plans, and sometimes stayed in the isolation area for 10 hours.

In the morning, they rounded the ward at the stationed hospital. In the afternoon, they gathered at the Wuhan Conference Center to discuss the death cases the previous day with personnel from the National Health Commission Command Center.

In the end, among the more than 42,000 doctors supporting Wuhan, 19,000 medical staff in the Department of Critical Care Medicine.

Encounter on the road to fight the epidemic

On April 24, 2020, the last critically ill patient in Wuhan was discharged from the hospital.

On April 26, the 20 experts who stayed in Wuhan from the National Health Commission began to evacuate Wuhan. Qiu Haibo, Tong Zhaohui, and Du Bin did not rest and went directly to Heilongjiang from Wuhan to continue their fight against the epidemic.

This "seamless" anti-epidemic model is already very familiar to the "Severe Eight Immortals".

Beginning on July 8 this year, Qiu Haibo traveled from Ruili, Yunnan to Nanjing, Jiangsu and then went to Yangzhou, where he devoted himself to the frontline of the epidemic for 50 consecutive days, "seamless connection."

When the epidemic broke out at Nanjing Lukou International Airport on July 20, he was still involved in the response to the imported epidemic in Ruili, Yunnan. He went straight to Nanjing on July 25 and moved to Yangzhou on August 2.

Zheng Ruiqiang also participated in the treatment of cases in Nanjing and Yangzhou, fighting alongside Qiu Haibo and Kang Yan.

At the same time, Jiang Li, the only female player in the "Severe Eight Immortals", is supporting Zhengzhou's fight against the epidemic.

Due to shoulder and neck problems, she had to wear a neck brace, stick a plaster, and clenched her teeth to work on the front line.

Guan Xiangdong introduced that it was precisely because Jiang Li worked with the disease that there were about fifteen or six critically ill patients in Zhengzhou and the workload was heavy. He was urgently transferred from Zhangjiajie to Zhengzhou for support by the National Health Commission.

When Guan Xiangdong arrived in Zhengzhou, it was August 16. Compared with the initial stage of the epidemic, the situation at this time was on the right track.

After meeting with Jiang Li, he jokingly said, "Thanks to you, I was already in heaven when I came." During his journey to fight the new crown epidemic, Guan Xiangdong celebrated his 59th birthday.

After the treatment work in Harbin, Tong Zhaohui went straight to Jilin, and later the Beijing and Qingdao epidemics, he ended his work in one place and went directly to the next place. By early 2021, Tong Zhaohui was on the front line of the fight against the epidemic. It took more than 250 days and the travel distance exceeded 15,000 kilometers.

On June 5, 2020, Qiu Haibo, who has been fighting the epidemic for 189 days, set off for home. Since then, he has moved to 14 regions across the country for more than a year in Urumqi, Kashgar, Dalian, Ruili, Nanjing, and Yangzhou. The calendar has accumulated more than 400 days; as of August this year, he went to Zhengzhou to support. Guan Xiangdong had already set off 11 times, and nearly 300 people were busy fighting the epidemic day and night...

We are ordinary doctors, we are representatives

On August 19 this year, the fourth Chinese physician’s day, all seven of the “Eight Immortals of Severe Diseases” spent their own holiday on the front line of the fight against the epidemic. “This is a meaningful holiday. As an ICU doctor, I will be here It is our own responsibility and responsibility to be able to participate in the treatment of critically ill patients one day at the bedside. Our greatest wish is to see the patients under care recover." Qiu Haibo said.

The itinerary of the "Severely Ill Eight Immortals" has almost strung up all the trajectories of the spread of the epidemic in the country.

On August 25, following the resetting of severe and critically ill patients in Nanjing, Yangzhou, and Zhengzhou, several experts were evacuated on the same day.

At present, the global epidemic is still continuing, and the awareness of prevention and control cannot be relaxed. No one knows where to set off next time.

"I hope to return to normal work and life soon. People all over the country think so." Jiang Li hopes that the epidemic will pass as soon as possible.

It is also because of the title of "Eight Immortals of Severe Illness" that they, who stick to the intensive care unit and become the last line of defense between the patient and the god of death, begin to receive attention, but they feel that this title is just a microcosm of ICU people, with more symbolic meaning and should not be They exaggerated the role of a few people; they attributed the reason why everyone liked the photo to the message that the Wuhan epidemic was gradually controlled, and victory is in sight; they have repeatedly emphasized that they are an ordinary doctor and support Wuhan. The epitome of 19,000 intensive care and nursing staff is the representative of 42,000 medical staff.
