• Ozzak is a Nantes start-up founded by three entrepreneurs.

  • Its concept is the sale of cinema tickets at preferential rates (-30% or -50%).

  • Two Nantes multiplexes joined the project to begin with.

But the ambition is a national deployment.

Going to the cinema more often without subscribing and without spending more, many dream of it. This is precisely the idea of Ozzak, whose commercial launch is officially given this Monday. Designed by three young Nantes entrepreneurs, this digital platform offers cinema tickets at discounted prices for screenings that exhibitors would have difficulty filling. Tickets are sold for 6.70 euros or 8.70 euros (including 0.70 euros for service charges), instead of a price of 12.40 euros on average in a multiplex.

The offer will mainly consist of screenings during off-peak hours, films that are less prominent or hits showing for several weeks.

But there will also be “last minute opportunities” and “privileged events” (previews, special evenings, etc.).

Objective: "to create a new lever of attendance for cinemas, outside their traditional sales tools".

"We especially do not want to sell off the seventh art"

“It's an idea we had two years ago with Mélanie and Cédric, my two partners,” says Sylvain Mante, co-founder of Ozzak. We had just left student life, we were no longer entitled to reductions and suddenly we had to pay for our seats much more. As young workers, that represented a significant budget. One evening, we found ourselves in an almost empty room and we wondered why? It was inevitably a loss for the operator. We then conducted a survey of many cinemas. And we realized that the number one criterion for going to the movies was the price, and that the release was becoming less and less spontaneous. That's a shame. By offering preferential rates, we do not want to sell off the seventh art. On the contrary, we want to allow the cinema to win back consumers. "

The method is inspired by

yield management

, already very common in transport and hotels.

The operation of the website, which will be adapted as a mobile app "early 2022", is relatively simple.

"The user enters his address and takes note of the films available around him," explains the co-founder of Ozzak.

It could be a session today or later in the week.

When the film is chosen, he discovers which partner cinema to go to.

Payment is made online.

A QR code is issued and must be presented at the entrance to the cinema.

Gaumont and Pathé in Nantes to start

For the moment, only two cinemas in the Nantes area have joined Ozzak: Pathé-Atlantis and Gaumont Nantes. But discussions are underway with other French cinemas, especially in Bordeaux and Paris. “We hope to be present in five large cities and around twenty partner cinemas within a year,” explains Sylvain Mante. According to him, the interest of the exhibitors is much more lively since the health crisis which strongly penalized the cinemas.

“The Ozzak project is very innovative,” says Romain Delamare, director of Pathé-Atlantis.

It is a real solution to help us, in the long term, to fill the so-called weaker sessions.

A cinema like ours, with a capacity of around 3,000 seats, has an occupancy rate of between 25% and 30% per year.

Ozzak's technology will make it possible to highlight sessions that we will transmit as needed.

The Nantes agglomeration has a dozen cinemas.

In the lot, there are five multiplexes (Gaumont, Pathé Atlantis, UGC Atlantis, Cinéville, Ciné Pôle sud) but also two art house cinemas in Nantes: the Katorza (six screens) and the Cinématographe (one screen).
