The federation of hairdressing corporations of Haut-Rhin launched this Monday a hair collection operation in the establishments of its members.

The volumes thus collected will be used to contribute to the decontamination of soil and water, indicates France 3 Alsace.

They will be recycled in the form of socks capable of absorbing hydrocarbons, fuel oil and other toxic substances.

In the event of an oil spill or other fuel leak, the blocks can, for example, retain up to eight liters of gasoline.

They are then reusable.

The Capillum hair recycling channel takes care of the transformation, which can be applied to all types of hair colors, lengths and qualities.

The hairdressing salons participating in the collection can be identified by the “Responsible Hairdresser” label.

"A gesture for the environment"

Some professionals have in fact started to harvest hair several months ago with the aim of "doing something for the environment," said Véronique Bacher, president of the federation.

The hair will be deposited in large dedicated bins present in the participating salons.

The recovered material will then be centralized in Mulhouse, transported by van to Strasbourg and sent to Capillum by post.
