The Alexandria Film Festival for Mediterranean Countries launched its 37th session, the day before yesterday, at the beginning of a new season for Egyptian film festivals, which runs from September to the first quarter of next year.

The opening ceremony was held on an open theater in the garden of a coastal city hotel, with the participation of a number of Arab and foreign artists and filmmakers, while following the health protocol to prevent the spread of the “Corona” virus.

The new edition comes under the slogan "Cinema for Life", and the State of Greece will be the guest of honor, as the festival dedicates a special program to it that includes five recent films.

The long films competition includes 13 films, the short films competition 17 films, while the Arab long films competition includes nine films from Egypt, Syria, Lebanon, Morocco and Tunisia. The festival also dedicates a competition for student films, which includes more than 30 films.

Egypt is represented in the feature film competition by the movie "Wish Al Qafs", directed by Dina Abdel Salam, and starring Ashraf Al-Mahdi, Amin Hegazy, Amina Al-Zoghbi, Onsi Al-Jundi, Hanan Hinnawi, Doaa Al-Zini, Rawya Hammam and Samir Qandil.

At the opening, the festival honored a group of personalities, led by director Ali Badrakhan, whose name the session bears, actress Salwa Khattab, actor Khaled Al-Sawy, director Omar Abdel Aziz, director of photography Tariq Al-Telmisani, the name of the late writer Kawthar Haikal, critic Khairiya Al-Bishlawi, and Greek director Angelos Frantzis. .

The festival, which runs until the 30th of this month, celebrates the centenary of the birth of actor Kamal El-Shennawy, actress Madiha Yousry, director Atef Salem, producer Ramses Naguib, actor Mohamed Reda and thinker Tharwat Okasha.

"Wesh El Qafs" represents Egypt in the feature film competition.
