• Toulouse Gay Pride is due to take place on Saturday October 9.

  • But for security reasons, the prefecture is rejecting the traditional route of the Pride March in the hypercentre.

  • The organizers, for whom the visibility of the event is essential, are up to the task.

Even in 2019, in full mobilization of "yellow vests", the Toulouse Pride March had been able to take place without incident on a Saturday in the city center. This is to say the anger of the organizers when they learned from the prefecture that for the 2021 edition, after the legitimate cancellation of 2020, the traditional route in the hypercentre - via the Capitol and rue Alsace-Lorraine in particular - their is refused.

Asked, the prefecture did not answer our questions.

But according to Pride Toulouse, she does not want to consider the usual route for the Pride March for reasons of "public safety and health", more exactly in these times of anti-health pass parades "because of the risk of disturbance to the public order likely to occur in view of the small size of the streets and the number of people in the city center on a Saturday afternoon ”.

"We will not let go"

“The prefecture first offered to postpone the event to Sunday, October 10 and then to maintain it on Saturday by relegating it to the left bank,” explains Régis Knauf, secretary of Pride Toulouse.

But we won't let go, we don't want to set a precedent.

Gay Pride is the only day when we have visibility, in particular to fight against discrimination ”.

While waiting for the continuation of this showdown, some fifty associations have already signed a declaration "against the invisibilization of LGBTQI + people and their struggles", recalling that when the "Demonstration for all" protests against the PMA, it can do it downtown.

The signatories appeal to the government but also "to the populations" via a petition posted online Friday.
