Three people died early on Sunday morning in an accident on Autobahn 8 near Pforzheim, including the 35-year-old who caused the accident.
According to the police, the man had driven his car from a parking lot against the direction of travel on the highway.
There the car crashed head-on into another car: two of the occupants of this car died, two others were seriously injured.
The 35-year-old also succumbed to his injuries.
Further details were initially not known, as a police spokesman said.
The A 8 between Pforzheim-Ost and Pforzheim-Nord was completely closed.
