There was a slight increase in the seven-day incidence in Germany compared to the previous day.

The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) gave the value of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants and week on Sunday morning as 61.4.

For comparison: the previous day the value was 60.6, a week ago it was 70.5.

The health authorities in Germany reported 7774 new corona infections to the RKI within one day.

This is evident from the numbers that reflect the status of the RKI dashboard at 4:07 a.m.

A week ago the value was 7337 infections.

According to the new information, 28 deaths were recorded across Germany within 24 hours.

A week ago there were 38 deaths.

The RKI has counted 4,196,378 detected infections with Sars-CoV-2 since the beginning of the pandemic.

The actual total number is likely to be significantly higher, as many infections are not detected.

The number of corona patients admitted to clinics per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days was last given by the RKI on Friday at 1.58, a decrease of 0.3 compared to the previous week's value.

A nationwide threshold value from when the situation can be viewed critically is not provided for the incidence of hospitalization, among other things because of large regional differences.

The previous high was around 15.5 around Christmas time.

The RKI stated the number of those who had recovered at 3,958,000.

The number of people who died with or with a proven infection with Sars-CoV-2 rose to 93,393.

Soon five million dead worldwide

More than 231.57 million people around the world have been shown to have contracted the coronavirus.

This gives a Reuters count based on official data.

More than 4.94 million people have died with or from the virus since it was first detected in Wuhan, China, in December 2019.

The United States has most cases of infection and death.

In second and third place are India and Brazil.

After the US, Brazil has the most deaths at 593,663.

There, 21.32 million cases of infection were detected.

In India, 446,658 people died in over 33.62 million infections related to the virus.

This is the third highest death rate worldwide after the USA and Brazil.

Discrimination against poor countries in the distribution of vaccines

Development Minister Gerd Müller warns of increasing disadvantages in poor countries when it comes to corona vaccines.

"Rich countries bought additional vaccines from the world market to make third-party vaccinations possible, while over 90 percent of Africans did not even have the first vaccination," says the CSU politician of the Funke media group.

The goal of the international vaccine initiative Covax of making two billion vaccine doses available to people in poor countries by the end of the year can no longer be achieved, said Müller.

So far, Covax has only distributed over 300 million vaccine doses.
