The cause of death of American actor Michael Williams revealed

"The Wire" actor Michael Williams died of a drug combination containing a mixture of fentanyl, heroin and cocaine, a New York City coroner said, to explain the cause of the beloved actor's death.

Williams, a drug-addicted resident of Flatbush, Brooklyn, New York City, was found dead on September 6 at his home in Williamsburg.

The coroner said Williams' death was an accident.

Authorities suspected Williams died of an overdose when police found an envelope containing drugs inside his apartment, according to sources.

For several years, Williams, 54, has spoken publicly about his struggles with drug addiction before entering the acting world or after participating in the hit series "The Wire."
