The jury in the abuse trial against R'n'B star R. Kelly withdrew to deliberate on the verdict on Friday.

The 54-year-old is accused of sexual abuse of minors, kidnapping and bribery between 1994 and 2018 in the proceedings before a federal court in New York.

If convicted, he faces a long prison sentence.

The public prosecutor accused the singer of the world hit "I Believe I Can Fly" for having built up a whole network of helpers and for using "lies, manipulation, threats and physical abuse".

Eleven alleged victims testified during the Brooklyn trial, nine women and two men.

Six of them were minors when Kelly allegedly started the abuse.

Defense speaks of "Playboy" life

The defense had presented the R'n'B singer, however, as a "sex symbol" who simply led a "Playboy life".

Kelly's alleged victim portrayed his lawyer Deveraux Cannick as disappointed groupies who were only after money.

The singer declined to testify in court.

He denies all allegations and has pleaded not guilty.

Now the jury of twelve jurors - seven men and five women - decides on Kelly's fate.
