The post-Merkel is being actively prepared across the Rhine.
On Sunday September 26, 2021, the Germans will elect their deputies.
The majority that will emerge will have to choose who will take over from the Chancellor, in power for sixteen years.
The latest polls put the SPD (the Social Democratic Party) ahead of the conservatives of the CDU and the Greens.
Among the most debated issues within this campaign: global warming.
The theme was revived after the devastating floods that hit western Germany and claimed nearly 200 lives.

One of the two affected states, North Rhine Westphalia, led by CDU candidate Armin Laschet, is also a region that continues to produce a highly polluting type of coal.
“The climate, an essential post-Merkel issue”, a great report by Anastasia Becchio.
