A Chinese man died after drinking 1.5 liters of "Coca-Cola". Doctors revealed the reason

A 22-year-old Chinese man has died after drinking a 1.5-liter bottle of Coca-Cola within 10 minutes to help cool off in hot weather, according to doctors who followed his condition.

The British newspaper "Daily Mail" and "Russia Today", quoting paramedics, reported that the rapid consumption of the Chinese young man led to the accumulation of deadly gases inside his body, which deprived the liver of oxygen and eventually led to his death.

According to the newspaper, the unidentified young man went to the hospital six hours after drinking the soft drink and complained of severe pain and swelling in the stomach.

Doctors at Beijing's Chaoyang Hospital told him he quickly drank 1.5 liters of Coca-Cola to help cool off due to the hot weather.

Drinking the drink too quickly caused gases to build up in his intestines, which then leaked into the portal vein, one of the liver's main blood vessels, due to pressure and caused fatal damage, according to doctors who provided details of the case.

When doctors first evaluated him, tests on the young man showed several worrying signs.

The young man, who was not thought to have any underlying health issues, had a high heart rate and low blood pressure and was breathing rapidly.

A CT scan found that he had pneumonia and an abnormal presence of gas in the wall of his gut and his portal vein.
