The Department of Culture and Tourism - Abu Dhabi concluded the activities of the ninth edition of the "Gulf Conference for Oral Heritage and History", which was organized this year by default under the slogan "Emirati Cultural Heritage and Identity... Reading in the Journey of Fifty Years", directly on the Abu Dhabi Culture platform.
The topics of this edition of the conference focused on the most important stations in the process of building the cultural identity of the UAE society, since the beginning of the union until today, and what has been achieved on the solid foundations laid down by the founding father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may God rest his soul, who granted Issues of national and cultural identity and heritage preservation are a major priority, in an effort to highlight them at the national, Gulf, Arab and international levels.
The conference shed light on the achievements of heritage and cultural institutions in the field of building the Emirati cultural identity, through this march spanning nearly half a century, and the hopes placed on it for its completion, the preservation of the authentic heritage of the UAE society, highlighting the relationship between heritage and cultural identity, evaluating the experience of building cultural identity, and benefiting from experiences Gulf and international organizations in strengthening the role of heritage in its construction and spreading societal awareness about the impact of heritage in defining its features.
Saeed Hamad Al Kaabi, Director of the Intangible Heritage Department at the Department of Culture and Tourism - Abu Dhabi, said: “Emirati heritage and cultural identity issues are among the basic constants of our society, which has succeeded in preserving its heritage, customs and traditions, while embracing many global cultures, which confirms our ability to uphold the values of Tolerance, welcoming and getting to know the other, while adhering to his cultural and national identity rooted in his conscience.
