September 23rd is International Day of Sign Languages.

The Nippon Foundation, in collaboration with Google and others, has developed a learning game that recognizes sign language movements using AI = artificial intelligence technology, and a presentation was held on the 22nd.

This computer game, named "Sign Language Town," was developed by the Nippon Foundation in collaboration with Kwansei Gakuin University and Google to broaden their understanding of sign language.

In the game where the character travels, you will be asked to answer the question in sign language, and then proceed if you can correctly express the sign language toward the camera of your computer.

In the development, in addition to making it possible to recognize the movement of sign language with a general personal computer camera, by collecting video data and letting AI learn it, it was possible to determine whether it was expressed correctly.

The game supports Japanese Sign Language and Hong Kong Sign Language, and Deaf YouTuber Kuroe, who was invited as a guest, challenged sign language such as "Panda".

Mr. Kuroe said, "I'm happy to have a game where I can learn sign language. I want to go to various countries overseas, so I want the languages supported such as British Sign Language to expand."

This game will be released for free on the Nippon Foundation website.

Mr. Ikumi Kawamata of The Nippon Foundation, who was also a deaf person and was in charge of development, said, "I think that many people of all ages can enjoy hearing and hearing, so please try it."
