A research group at Hiroshima University announced that it has developed a compound that suppresses the growth of the new coronavirus.

The group wants to pursue further research toward the practical application of therapeutic agents.

The research group of Professor Chiichiro Asano and Professor Takemasa Sakaguchi of Hiroshima University is conducting research on therapeutic agents for the new coronavirus in collaboration with Tokyo University of Pharmacy and the University of Tokyo.

The group focused on the enzyme that promotes the growth of the new coronavirus and developed a compound that suppresses the action of this enzyme.

Since the compound is five kinds of substances such as "H-77" and acts directly on the protein of the cell, it is expected to be effective even if the virus is mutated.

The research group wants to further research so that the compound can be linked to the development of therapeutic agents.

According to Professor Takemasa Sakaguchi of Hiroshima University, who specializes in virology, he said that he is considering the practical application of tablets in addition to intravenous drip, and said, "I would like to lead to the development of good drugs so that the options for therapeutic drugs can be expanded." ..
