The police in Middle Franconia arrested a 30-year-old man from Serbia in a coach.

A spokesman told the FAZ that it was accessed on Tuesday evening at 9:30 p.m.

The incident had kept the police, who were in large numbers on site, on their toes since late afternoon.

For an unexplained cause, there was a physical confrontation between several passengers on the bus, with two people being slightly injured, the police said late in the evening.

According to witness statements, a threat situation arose as a result.

SEK unit in action

The Bavarian police blocked the Autobahn 9 between the Hilpoltstein and Greding junctions in both directions.

The ICE route between Munich and Nuremberg, which runs next to the autobahn, was also affected.

According to the police in Middle Franconia, only the three bus drivers were still on the bus with the allegedly armed passenger.

All other passengers were outside on the hard shoulder.

On the basis of a determined mobile phone number, the police managed to contact one of the drivers, whereupon all drivers left the coach.

After several hours, the man who claimed to be armed was arrested without resistance.

So far, however, a weapon has not been found on the bus or on the suspect, the police said.

Extensive forensic evidence is currently being carried out at the crime scene.

In addition, the area of ​​the parked coach was searched for possible evidence.

A police negotiating group as well as a SEK unit and a police helicopter were involved in the operation. According to information from nordbayern.de, the emergency services initially kept a distance of 500 meters from the bus. At times it was an "unclear threat situation", it said. As the Bild newspaper writes, shortly before the arrest, the police used several stun grenades to distract the suspected hostage taker.
