Two new colleges were inaugurated in the Loiret, in Pithiviers and Dadonville, at the beginning of September.

These two buildings have a particularity: they were built from biobased materials, in particular straw, indicates

, this Sunday.

These materials have received certifications from the Construction Quality Agency (AQC) and the Scientific and Technical Center for Building (CSTB).

For Marc Gaudet, president of the departmental council, their use seemed logical after the visit of the oldest individual straw construction in Europe, dating from 1920.

“Being a farmer myself, I am sensitive to these centuries-old materials and techniques, the development of which can bring new economic outlets to our farmers,” he said.

For the two colleges, the site represented a total cost of 42 million euros.

A substantial sum, but elected officials were encouraged by the desire to "do away with thermal strainers".

They also took into account future savings, particularly in terms of heating.

Most of the materials were produced locally, including straw bales, hemp, flax and cotton.

The design and construction were also entrusted to local companies.
