To benefit from Vitamin D.. Eat it with these foods

Dietitian Whitney Crouch has revealed that taking vitamin D supplements that aren't paired with an important group of foods likely won't enable your body to fully absorb its huge benefits.

Crouch explained to the "Eat This Not That" website that taking vitamin D or including it in your diet offers many advantages to staying healthy.

According to the site, the Mayo Clinic reports that everyone between the ages of one and 70 should get 600 international units (IUs) of vitamin D daily.

And after the age of 70, this amount should increase to 800 international units.

The website quoted MindBodyGreen as saying that vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin;

This means that unlike some other vitamins, it does not dissolve when combined with water.

Instead it must be combined with fats to be properly distributed and absorbed by the body.

Crouch advises that the fats we consume along with our vitamin D are "good," citing olive oil, avocado oil and flax oil as examples of healthy fats.

As for how much fat we need with vitamin D, a 2013 study suggested that foods containing about 10 grams of fat may support optimal absorption of vitamin D.
