In the early morning of September 20, the results of the general election of the 2021 Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Election Commission subsector general election were announced. All 364 election committees out of the 13 subsectors contested by 412 candidates were successfully formed.

Under Hong Kong's new electoral system, the Election Committee has important functions, including the nomination of candidates for the Chief Executive election and the election of candidates for the Chief Executive, the nomination of candidates for the Legislative Council election, and the election of 40 members of the Legislative Council.

According to the new election system arrangement, a total of 325 of the 1,500 seats of the Election Committee have been ruled to be validly registered as ex officio members of the Election Committee, and 156 people have been ruled to be validly nominated as members of the Election Committee.

In addition, 603 candidates were automatically elected, and 412 candidates competed for 364 seats on the 19th (because the legislative council members have not yet held general elections and some ex officio members have overlapped status and other reasons, there are less than 1500 people).

The term of the new election committee of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region is five years, starting on October 22, 2021 and ending on October 21, 2026.
