Where did the items you eliminated?

The Ministry of Commerce recently released the "China's Renewable Resources Recycling Industry Development Report (2020)" (hereinafter referred to as the "Report"), showing that by the end of 2019, China's total recycling of renewable resources reached 354 million tons, and the total amount of recycling was about 90.38 billion yuan. There are about 100,000 recycling companies with about 15 million employees, and the total amount of recycling of major types of renewable resources is gradually increasing.

Data shows that at present, most areas of the country have established recycling networks, the "Internet + recycling" model has gradually matured, and the renewable resource recycling system integrating recycling, sorting, and distribution is gradually improving.

Recycling becomes easier

——From yelling on the street to one-click appointments, from covering first- and second-tier cities to third- and fourth-tier cities

In the past, whenever there was a "remove the tatters" on the street, someone poked their heads out of the window and beckoned the other party to take it away.

Take away all the old clothes, old books, burnt pots, and small electrical appliances that are not easy to use, and exchange for a share of money for grocery shopping.

Nowadays, such yelling is hard to hear anymore.

At the same time, in the current consumption upgrade, young people are buying new clothes more and more frequently, and the old clothes that have been eliminated are piled up at home.

How to deal with old things?

Some people put them in the waste textile recycling bin at the gate of the community.

Bai Yun, a Shanghai citizen, told reporters that a waste textile recycling bin was placed in the community, and from time to time an administrator would come to pull away the old clothes in the bin.

"After Shanghai implements garbage sorting, you can also hand over old clothes and old electrical appliances to the garbage sorting manager, and the aunts will help you deal with it."

Some people choose to be sold as second-hand goods.

There are about 100 JK uniform skirts and other clothes in the house of Xiao Pei, a citizen of Beijing, and the closet can't fit.

"I will hang the skirts that I don’t like and have worn many times on Xianyu for sale. Although the price is a little lower, it can'return some blood'." Xiao Pei’s Xianyu homepage shows that Xiao Pei is already idle. 126 items were sold on the fish, with a profit of approximately 46,000 yuan.

Some people choose to replace it with virtual items.

On the Flying Ant platform, second-hand goods such as old clothes, bed sheets, shoes, and old bags can be recycled. Alipay Ant Forest Energy can be obtained after recycling. 1KG can exchange 158 ant energy.

"I usually sort out some old clothes when changing seasons, and then make an appointment for flying ants to collect them. On the one hand, this platform has a good reputation and is more trustworthy; on the other hand, I want the energy of the ant forest and can continue to plant trees for charity. "Ms. Tang from Beijing Municipality said.

The update speed of electronic products is accelerating, and the recycling of old home appliances has become a problem that almost every consumer needs to consider.

Xiao Pei bought a Nikon SLR at a price of nearly 9,000 yuan seven or eight years ago and sold it to Xianyu Huihui for 1,815 yuan last year.

"Compared with the purchase price, the recycling price is not high, but I think it's okay to make unused old electronic products'places' or even'usefulness'." Xiao Pei said.

With the development of Internet technology, recycling has become more and more convenient.

Take mobile phone recycling as an example. In addition to consignment recycling on the platform and appointment of engineers' door-to-door recycling, Xianyu has also launched a one-stop mobile phone door-to-door recycling service in conjunction with a logistics company.

The user logs into the Xianyu APP "Selling at ease" channel, and after conducting an online valuation, he can decide whether to place an order and make an appointment for door-to-door collection.

The system will evaluate the model, storage capacity, screen appearance and other dimensions to determine the recycling price.

Subsequently, the courier will pick up the parcel free of charge according to the appointment time, inspect the machine on the spot with professional equipment, and pay by transfer in person.

Further upgrades have been made in terms of standardization of valuation, visualization of quality inspection, data removal, and service efficiency.

At present, the service has been opened in 50 cities across the country, in addition to the main first- and second-tier cities, it also covers third- and fourth-tier cities such as Zhumadian, Chaozhou, and Liaoyang.

Reprocessing in multiple ways

——Donated to children in remote areas, disassembled into raw materials for reuse

Statistics show that from 2017 to the end of 2020, Xianyu has recycled more than 50,000 tons of used clothes and 23.7 million old books.

Where did the recovered items go?

Used clothes are the bulk of the recycled products.

An old clothes sorting factory in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, handles more than 10,000 parcels every day, and the sorting volume during the change of seasons is at least about twice as high as usual.

The person in charge said that 20% of the factory's garments will be sold to downstream factories for recycling to make felts, carpets, and greenhouse quilts; the other 15% will be donated.

Used books are often screened and donated to areas in need.

It is understood that Xianyu initiated the "Operation Fish Power" charity activity of donating used books, and the platform will screen and refurbish the recovered old books.

“Children in remote areas are not only lack of books, but there is also a problem of book mismatch.” The relevant person in charge of Xianyu said, “People often don’t think about the nature of books when donating books, and give priority to the elimination of low-quality books, which leads to the recycling of books. "A mixture of fish and dragons". "Operation Fish Power" can ensure that the books that flow to mountain schools match the reading needs of children. This is a more accurate way to donate books." At present, "Operation Fish Power" has launched 4 phases and completed the project to Gansu Province. Gongbeiwan Primary School, Longquan Town, Dongxiang County, and Gaozhuang Kindergarten, Songji Town, Xiping County, Zhumadian City, Henan Province, and other 6 mountainous elementary schools and 2 kindergartens donated.

Last year, Xianyu opened a reading day zone for Gansu and other provinces to give away 100,000 books, and users can receive one book for 0.01 yuan for postage.

How to deal with old appliances?

Taking Xianyu as an example, Xianyu's home appliance recycling business currently covers six categories of refrigerators, air conditioners, washing machines, TVs, freezers, and commercial kitchen appliances.

After the user makes an online appointment, professional service providers come to conduct quality inspection, valuation and recycling to improve the experience and efficiency of home appliance recycling.

Recycled home appliances with a low residual value will flow into the dismantling plant, where they will be disassembled into raw materials for recycling; the recycled home appliances with a high residual value will be processed by service providers, and some of them will enter the second-hand market for re-circulation.

Industry insiders pointed out that scrap hardware dismantled from waste electrical appliances, such as compressors, motors, wires, heat sinks, etc., are dismantled in an environmentally friendly manner to form renewable resources such as scrap copper, scrap aluminum, scrap steel, and scrap plastics. Sell to downstream waste-recycling enterprises to realize resource recycling.

This model can not only turn waste into treasure, realize resource reuse, but also reduce waste of resources.

Recycling rate to be improved

——Currently there are still problems such as low level of refined sorting and low recycling rate

In recent years, a series of policy measures focusing on the recycling and utilization of renewable resources have been implemented one after another.

In 2016, six departments including the Ministry of Commerce issued the "Opinions on Promoting the Transformation and Upgrading of the Recycling Resource Recovery Industry"; in 2017, the National Development and Reform Commission and other departments issued the "Recycling Development Leading Action", proposing to promote the new model of "Internet + Recycling"; July this year , The "14th Five-Year" Circular Economy Development Plan proposes to improve the recycling network of waste materials, actively promote the "Internet + recycling" model, and achieve online and offline coordination; in August this year, the Development and Reform Commission and other three departments jointly issued the "Notice on the Implementation of the Recycling Target Responsibility System by Manufacturers", clarified that by 2023, a group of household appliance manufacturers will develop a demonstration benchmark for the implementation of the recycling target responsibility system, and form a batch of reproducible and popularized recycling processing models and experience practices, and key household appliances varieties The utilization rate of standardized recycling has been significantly improved, and the main capacity and level of the market for recycling and disposal of waste home appliances have been significantly improved... The favorable policies have vigorously promoted the rapid development of "Internet + recycling".

The "Internet + recycling" model does not have too many time and geographic boundaries in circulation, and the platform can use the network to quickly match idle supply and demand.

"Idle items are misplaced resources. We have always advocated the concept of'turning waste into consumption', encouraging users to re-circulate or recycle idle items through idle fish to participate in the circular economy and green and low-carbon life, and produce more The social value of Xianyu." The relevant person in charge of Xianyu said that Xianyu's "Internet + recycling" model is sinking to cover more counties.

The "Report" shows that the scale of China's renewable resource recycling industry has been significantly expanded, and the total amount of recycling of major types of renewable resources has gradually increased, but there are still problems such as low level of refined sorting and low recycling rate.

Due to the wide range of sources of renewable resources and complex recycling paths, domestic recycling companies are generally small in scale, simple in equipment, and backward in technology. The sorting of renewable resources is still roughly classified manually. Different types and series of raw materials are difficult to effectively separate, and downstream companies use the process. It still needs to spend manpower and funds for pre-processing, resulting in high recycling costs and low recycling rate of renewable resources.

At the same time, some renewable resource recycling companies lack standardized disposal capabilities, pollution control facilities are incomplete, and some do not even have corresponding supporting facilities. Environmental problems such as dust and wastewater are easily generated during production and stacking.

The "Report" pointed out that it is estimated that China produces more than 20 million tons of waste textiles every year.

One category is leftovers from the pre-consumer industrial processing field, which are basically recycled; the other category is a large amount of waste clothes and textiles that are idle in the hands of residents, with a recycling rate of about 15%.

Pan Yonggang, secretary-general of the China Renewable Resources Recycling Association, suggested that in the future, in areas with mature conditions, such as areas where the textile or chemical industry is relatively concentrated, a distribution center for recycled materials such as waste textiles should be established to allow the recycling of renewable resources to form a scale advantage.
