Xinhua News Agency, Hong Kong, September 19 (Reporter Wenye Cha) The general election of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Election Committee subsector in 2021 will be held on the 19th. This is the first election of the Election Committee held after the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region has improved its electoral system.

According to the election arrangements, voting starts at 9 am on the same day and ends at 6 pm. There are 5 general polling stations and 1 dedicated polling station in Hong Kong.

The Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Carrie Lam told reporters after inspecting polling stations on the morning of the 19th that the election will bring a new situation to Hong Kong. This is the first time since the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region’s electoral system has been improved and the principle of “patriots ruling Hong Kong” has been implemented. election.

This election will lay a solid foundation for the future Legislative Council elections and the election of the Chief Executive of the Special Administrative Region.

On March 11 this year, the Fourth Session of the 13th National People's Congress passed the "Decision of the National People's Congress on Improving the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region's Electoral System" with high votes.

According to the decision, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Election Commission has expanded to five sectors with a total of 1,500 people, responsible for the election of candidates for the Chief Executive, some members of the Legislative Council, and the nomination of candidates for the Chief Executive and Legislative Council members.

According to the arrangement of the new election system, among the 1,500 seats of the Election Committee, a total of 325 people have been ruled to be validly registered as ex officio members of the Election Committee, and 156 people have been ruled to be validly nominated as members of the Election Committee.

In addition, 603 candidates were automatically elected, and 412 candidates competed for 364 seats on the 19th (because the legislative council members have not yet held general elections and some ex officio members have overlapped status and other reasons, there are less than 1500 people).
