The "steadfast" cake baffles archaeologists... How did it survive the bombs of the World War?

A cake recently discovered in the northern German city of Lübeck is baffling German archaeologists.

A 79-year-old cake was found last April during excavations in the old town of Lübeck, and the cake not only withstood this period of time but also the bombing of the city in 1942 and the subsequent fire without being largely damaged.

The head of the antiquities department in Lübeck, Manfred Schneider, said that the cake is currently being cleaned of dirt and soot by a restoration expert, and after that the baked piece will be preserved.

The find is of rare national value, as there are still no similar finds in both Hamburg and Dresden, which were destroyed by bombs during World War II, according to experts.
