Sharjah Art Foundation announces the winners of the 9th Perspective Awards

Sharjah Art Foundation inaugurated the ninth edition of the exhibition "Sharjah's Viewpoint" at Al Hamriya Studios in Sharjah, the day before yesterday.

Regarding the diversity of works participating in this session, Sheikha Nawar bint Ahmed Al Qasimi, Director of the Sharjah Art Foundation, said that “the initiative witnessed a remarkable development in the quality of the works presented and the expansion of participation in them, so that through its successive sessions, it was able to transcend its regional surroundings, and openness to photographic experiences from various around the world.”

She added, "I would like to express my thanks and appreciation to all applicants, and to all photographers whose works have been selected to participate in this exhibition."

During the opening ceremony, the winners of this cycle’s awards were announced: Riad Abedin in the Documentary Photojournalism category, Khadija Al-Abyad in the Performance Photography category, Ishq Kaya in the Conceptual Photography category, and Davishesh Ghawar in the Experimental Photography category.

The winning works were chosen by a jury composed of: artist Ammar Al-Attar, photographer and architect Sham Enbashi, photographer Mohamed Kilito, writer and artist Alia Al Shamsi.

The value of the prize awarded to each winner is $1,500.

A member of the jury, Alia Al Shamsi, indicated that the work of photographer Riad Abdeen, winner of the documentary photojournalism category: “places us in an atmosphere of tranquility, and contains many aesthetic elements that not only draw the viewer’s attention, but also push him to dive into these images that reveal stories.” You don't need words.”

While a member of the jury, Ammar Al-Attar, praised the victory of the photographer Davashish Gauer series in the performance photography category, saying: “Ghauer’s winning series comes from a great idea.

In turn, a member of the jury, Mohamed Kilito, said about the “Second Nature” project by photographer Ashk Kaya, winner of the Conceptual Photography Award: “It stimulates the viewer’s acumen and feelings and creates a kind of connection with them, through the originality of the images, their thorny visual language and the vision that Ashiq relied on to implement her project.” ».

Jury member Sham Enbashi said about the work of photographer Khadija Al Abyadh winning the performance photography award: “The photographer in performance photography in particular enjoys absolute control over the elements that are part of an integrated whole, but the success lies in giving way to her natural existence, and I believe that Khadija You have succeeded in this.”

The open invitation for this year attracted more than 500 participants, from whom the works of 53 photographers from more than 30 countries were selected to participate in the exhibition. Technical.

The Foundation launched its first open invitation to participate in the first edition of the Sharjah Perspective exhibition in the summer of 2013, inviting photographers residing in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries to submit their works, and with the increasing popularity of this initiative over the years, the geographical scope was expanded to include all countries of the world, and included New topics such as: “Self-Portrait”, “Performance”, and “Architecture and Urban Scenes”.
