Xinhua News Agency, Hong Kong, September 19 (Reporter Wenye Cha) The general election of the 2021 Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Election Committee subsector will be held on the 19th.

The Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Carrie Lam told reporters after inspecting polling stations that morning that the election will bring a new situation to Hong Kong.

She said that this is the first election after the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region's electoral system has been improved and the principle of "patriots ruling Hong Kong" has been implemented.

This election will lay a solid foundation for future Legislative Council elections and Chief Executive elections.

Carrie Lam said that she believes that with the efforts of all parties, this election will be a fair, open and just election.

She said that for a period of time, anti-China and chaotic Hong Kong elements have used open election opportunities to enter Hong Kong's governance structure, oppose the central government and the SAR government, and "pan-politicize" Hong Kong and hinder Hong Kong's development.

The National People's Congress passed relevant decisions to improve Hong Kong's electoral system, which will help restore the original intention of "one country, two systems".

Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor said that after the expansion of the Election Committee, many sectors that were previously unable to participate in the election will have opportunities to participate, such as the Hong Kong representatives of grassroots organizations and national organizations. This is in line with the principle of balanced participation and makes the Election Committee broadly representative. .
