At some point, literary scholar and translator Nicole Seifert began to think about the disparity on her own shelf.

And started an experiment: for three years she only read books by women.

Now she has written a book about why women writers often have such a hard time in the world of literature.

It is called "Women Literature" - the word women is crossed out in the title.

We asked her what she objected to the concept of women's literature and how she fared reading all the classics and contemporary authors.

This is followed by a new literary puzzle.

"Women literature - devalued, forgotten, rediscovered" by Nicole Seifert was published by Kiepenheuer and Witsch, has 224 pages and costs 18 euros.
