New Corona Emergency Questionnaire "Intergenerational Gap" to Be Relieved September 18, 13:27

It's been almost a year and a half since the first state of emergency was declared last April.

What can I do to survive the protracted corona wreckage?

Mr. Shigeru Omi, the chairman of the government's "Basic Response Policy Subcommittee," has recently strongly appealed, "While discussing with the public, we will seek breakthrough measures to achieve both infection control and social activities. That is.

Therefore, we produced the NHK Special "Emergency Dialogue between New Corona Citizens and Experts" (broadcast on September 19), in which experts such as Chairman Omi and citizens talk and explore the path to a solution.

In the dialogue between citizens and experts, we conducted an urgent questionnaire to 1,200 men and women aged 15 to 69 years nationwide in order to explore people's awareness and behavior toward the new coronavirus.

Analyzing the results of the questionnaire, we can see the actual situation such as various thoughts and anxieties about prolonged self-restraint life and vaccination, and gaps between generations.

(* This questionnaire was conducted by LINE Research from September 3rd to September 6th, 2021 / Gender / age composition ratio is corrected according to the ratio of Japan as a whole)

How scary is the new Corona?

I asked how scary the new coronavirus is.

“Very scary” 50.4%

“Slightly scary” 42.4%

“Not

very scary”

6.1%

“Very scary” was the most common with more than half, and “Slightly scary” also exceeded 40%.

A total of 92.8% found that the new Corona was "scary".

What are you worried about right now?

Next, we asked them to choose from the options that they were worried about about the new Corona (multiple answers).

“Medical system” was the most common at 61.4%,

followed by “Infection at home and children” at 49.5%, and

“Prolonged request for refraining from government / local government (state of emergency, etc.)” at 33.3%.

In the free text related to this question, many said that they were particularly worried about their own infection.

"Medical system is a concern. If what I be treated anxiety (40s men and company employee) when he became ill,"

"can not be admitted even if the infection, since it is often home care, Ya domestic infection I'm worried about sudden changes in symptoms (female in her 50s, part-time job) ”In

addition, due to the influence of the new corona,“ the amount of work has decreased and my income has dropped sharply. Some people were anxious about the infection, and some suggested that they were feeling mental stress due to their prolonged self-restraint.

"This situation has continued for a year and a half, and I want to meet people

I'm

close to soon (male in my 20s, office worker)."

(Women in their 40s, part-time job) "

How does the degree of self-restraint change?

Is there a change in the degree of self-restraint while many people have various anxieties about their lives due to the prolonged corona illness?

I asked him in comparison with the first state of emergency issued in April last year ...

“No change” was the most common at 54.0%,

“I started to refrain from doing so” 26.6%

, and “I didn't do

as much as I did at that time” at 19.4%.

It has become clear that about 80% of all people continue to refrain from refraining from doing so as much as or more than when the state of emergency was declared last year.

The younger the generation, the higher the percentage of people who "have less self-restraint than they did at that time" !?

Furthermore, looking at the people who answered, "I am less self-restraint than at that time," by age group, I found that there are differences between generations.

The

results were

28.9% for

teens and 28.5%

for

20s

, which is higher than other

age groups

.

Why is it "less self-restraint than it was then"?

Also, when I asked the person who answered "I'm not as self-restraint as I was at that time" with multiple answers ...

"Because I'm tired of self-restraint" 42.6%

"Because vaccination is progressing" 33.6%

"Because I'm taking measures against infection" 32.6%

"Because I can't make a living" 31.1%

The answers were ranked high.

How long can you continue your "behavioral restriction" life?

Prolonged self-restraint life.

Many people are still living hard within their behavioral restrictions to curb the spread of the new coronavirus.

So I asked how long I could continue this life.

(* "Behavioral restrictions" refer to refraining from going out, closing of shops and facilities, shortening of business hours, restrictions on holding events, etc.)

"Until the infection is resolved

"

42.5%

"During this year" 18.6%

"I don't know 18.1%

"I can't continue anymore" 10.7%

"Half a year" 5.9%

"One year left" 4.3%

Nearly half of the respondents said they would continue to restrict their behavior "until the infection was resolved", but on the other hand, " More than a quarter of the respondents answered, "I can't continue anymore" or "this year."

What do you think about vaccination?

Vaccination with the new corona is expected to be the trump card to break the self-restraint life.

What are your thoughts on vaccines and behavioral restrictions?

First of all, when I asked how they felt about vaccination ...

“I think it is better to inoculate” was the most common at 78.0%,

“I can't say either” 19.4%, and

“I think it is better not to inoculate” 2.6%.

The older the age, the higher the percentage of people who say "it is better to inoculate"

Furthermore, looking at the people who answered "I think it is better to inoculate" by age group ...

Nearly 70% of people in all age groups answered that they should be vaccinated, and the older the age, the higher the percentage.

The younger the generation, the higher the percentage that "it is better not to inoculate"

This time, on the contrary, I looked at the people who answered "I think it is better not to inoculate" by age group.

Teens had the highest percentage at 7.1%,

20s at 4.6%, and

30s at 4.0%,

showing that

the

younger generation tended to avoid vaccination.

The reasons are

"the safety and effects of vaccination several years later are not clear (female in her 20s, office worker)"

"because there are fears of side reactions and contamination (male teens, students)"

Vaccine safety While some have raised concerns about sexuality and side reactions, many have suggested that they are wondering whether to get the vaccine.

"Because the vaccination has

just

started and there is no information (male in his 20s, office worker)"

"I can't judge it as good or bad (female in his 50s, etc.)"

What do you need for behavioral change?

Along with vaccines, people's behavioral changes are indispensable for the convergence of the new corona.

We asked them to choose from the options what kind of mechanism / system is necessary for that purpose (multiple answers).

"Economic compensation" was the most common at 69.2%,

"mandatory infection control measures such as imposing penalties" 45.0%

"promotion of telework" 43.7%

"explanation and dissemination ability of government and experts" 43.2%

"school education" "Online" was 34.9%.

What is accepted as "mandatory infection control measures"?

Next, I asked multiple answers to the question, "Which one is accepted as" mandatory infection control measures such as imposing penalties "?"

"Obligation to wear a mask" was the most common at 66.5%,

"Restrictions on events and leisure" 54.4%

"Obligation to vaccinate" 40.3%

"Restrictions on restaurant business" 34.8%

"Permission to go out" 24.1%

"Nothing I don't want to accept it "6.8%

How should we deal with the new Corona?

At the end of the questionnaire, I asked the question, "How do you think you should face the new Corona in the future?"

63.6% of the respondents answered that they should continue to restrict their behavior and prioritize the convergence of the new corona, which is more than eight times that of those who answered that they should relax their behavior and prioritize socio-economic activities (7.5%). It turns out that the majority of people want to prioritize the convergence of infections at the expense of socio-economic activity.

Through this questionnaire survey, we can see the earnest voices of people who want to regain a peaceful life while having various thoughts and anxieties about the new corona, vaccines, self-restraint life, etc. depending on their position and age. bottom.

Chairman Omi of the government subcommittee also said, "I get the impression that people are divided into two extremes because I can't tell what they are sending. I want to know. "

At NHK's studio, along with other experts from the subcommittee, we engaged in dialogue with nine citizens of different occupations and ages.

The NHK Special "Emergency Dialogue between New Corona Citizens and Experts" will be broadcast on September 19th (Sun) at 9 pm on NHK General TV to find a way to overcome the corona disaster by hitting each other's real intentions.
