6 lions and 3 tigers infected with corona at the Washington Zoo

Six lions and three tigers at the Washington Zoo have been diagnosed with the Corona virus, according to the institution that treats felines.

"Last weekend, the guards noticed a decrease in appetite, coughing, sneezing and lethargy" in the six African lions, one Sumatran tiger and two Siberian tigers diagnosed with COVID-19 during initial examinations, a statement said.

The results of the confirmation examinations are expected to be released in the coming days.

Infected animals are treated with anti-inflammatory and anti-nausea drugs, as well as antibiotics that protect them from the risk of pneumonia.

The park's curators made it clear that the public is not in danger due to the distance between the feline habitat and the visitors.

These injuries were recorded at a time when several American zoos, including Washington Park, announced the launch of a vaccination campaign for animals susceptible to infection with Covid-19 in these locations.

A number of gorillas were diagnosed with Covid-19 last week at the Atlanta Zoo.
