A dozen cows will cross the center of Colmar (Haut-Rhin) on Sunday, September 19.

The animals, all of Vosges breed, should thus arrive near Champ-de-Mars between 1:30 p.m. and 2 p.m.

A speech and a concert of bells will precede the departure of the cattle, around 2:30 p.m.

The aim of this operation: to highlight transhumance within the framework of the European Week of local mountain breeds, indicates the municipality on its website.

Three days of discussions

The SERAM3 colloquium takes place from September 20 to 22 at the Center de Rencontre, d'Echanges et de Formation (CREF) in Colmar. Scientists and professionals will discuss, in particular, climate change and the adaptation of massive agriculture. "The objective of these actions is to include transhumance in the intangible heritage of Humanity at Unesco in 2022 after having been recognized as a cultural and intangible heritage in France in 2020", specifies the town hall.

The presence of cows in the streets of the city will have an impact on traffic this Sunday.

The speed will therefore be limited to 20 km / h on Avenue de la République, during the event.

The following streets will be completely inaccessible during the passage of animals: avenue de la République, rue Kléber, rue des Boulangers, rue des Têtes, place des Martyrs de la Résistance, rue des Serruriers, place de la Cathédrale, rue de Church, Grand'Rue, rue des Blés and rue Bruat.
