The spokesperson of the Commissioner’s Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Macao stated on the night of the 16th that the European Parliament voted to pass the so-called bill, based on prejudice and lies to make irresponsible remarks about the practice of "one country, two systems" in Macao, and openly interfere in Macao affairs and China. Internal affairs violate international law and the basic norms of international relations, and we firmly oppose this.
The spokesperson pointed out that over the past 20 years since the return of Macao, under the correct leadership of the central government and the strong support of the motherland, the SAR government has united and led all sectors of society to act in strict accordance with the Constitution and the Basic Law. The practice of "One Country, Two Systems" in Macao has achieved universally recognized success, and Macao has ushered in it. The best development situation in history.
Residents of the SAR enjoy unprecedented and extensive rights and freedoms in accordance with the law. This is a fact recognized by anyone without prejudice.
The smooth holding of the elections for the seventh legislative council of Macao fully demonstrated the spirit of governing Macao according to law and embodied democracy and the extensive participation of all sectors of society.
The spokesperson emphasized that the European Parliament ignores the fact that Macau’s "one country, two systems" has been successfully implemented and uses the so-called democracy and human rights as an excuse to dictate Macau affairs and China’s internal affairs. The Chinese people, including the Macau compatriots, will never accept this.
We urge the European Parliament to fully and accurately understand "One Country, Two Systems", abide by international law and norms of international relations, and do more things that are beneficial to the development of China-EU relations and the exchanges and cooperation between Macao and Europe.
