The construction of a mosque in the Pharaonic style, with inscriptions, drawings and sculptures, in a Fayoum village, sparked controversy among the pioneers of the social networking site, according to the newspaper "Al-Dustour" and the "Masrawy" website.

Muhammad Shafiq, a resident of the village, said that the mosque was built with self-efforts and donations from the villagers, and we do not know that pharaonic inscriptions will be made in this way to the point of ridicule.

The Undersecretary of the Fayoum Endowments Directorate, Khaled Diraz, confirmed the closure of the mosque, removing all the pharaonic drawings that top the facade of the mosque, as well as the drawings inside, and re-engraving them in the Islamic style.

Habib said that he assigned the Inspection Department of Mosques to determine who is responsible for engraving these pharaonic drawings on the front and inside of the mosque, pointing out that the incident is the first time it has occurred in Fayoum Governorate.

Sheikh Khaled Mahmoud, Director General of Da`wah at the Awqaf Directorate in Fayoum, said that an extensive investigation had been opened with the engineers who carried out the designs for this mosque to find out who actually put these designs.

He added that he summoned workers affiliated with the Shawashnah Endowment Department to remove these drawings, and discuss those responsible for implementing them to find out the goal behind this, pointing out that the process of painting and redeveloping the mosque is being carried out with self-efforts without the intervention of the Endowment Directorate officials.
