After a much-discussed Twitter message from US rapper Nicki Minaj about alleged side effects of the corona vaccination, the White House offered her a phone call with an expert.

As several US media reported on Wednesday (local time), citing a government official, Minaj was suggested to talk to him about the safety and effectiveness of the vaccine.

The musician wrote on Twitter on Monday that an acquaintance in her home country of Trinidad and Tobago had become impotent after the vaccination.

Minaj announced on Wednesday that she had been invited to the White House as a result of the tweet and that she had also accepted the invitation. The US official contradicted this representation, however, according to media reports and said it was just a telephone conversation with a doctor.

The 38-year-old caused a stir on Monday with around 22.6 million Twitter followers by stating that she was not attending the New York Met Gala because it required a vaccination. She wants to first “do enough research” before getting vaccinated. Minaj also advised her more than 22 million followers to think carefully about the decision to vaccinate and not to be intimidated. A friend of her cousin's in Trinidad and Tobago had swollen testicles after the vaccination - which affected his fertility.

The Ministry of Health of the Caribbean State contradicted this representation.

"One of the reasons we couldn't respond to Ms. Minaj in real time yesterday is because we had to check and make sure that her claims are true or false," said Health Secretary Terrence Deyalsingh.

Unfortunately, "a lot of time has been wasted verifying this false claim."

Praise from the right

For this, the pop star earned a lot of ridicule and criticism - even offline.

Britain's top government medical advisor, Chris Whitty, said Tuesday Minaj should be ashamed.

There are people who spread untruths about vaccination even though they knew better.

Your tweet was a topic of conversation, especially in the USA, because the influential right-wing TV presenter Tucker Carlson praised him as "sensible" on his Fox News program.

Carlson keeps sowing doubts about the necessity and safety of vaccines against the coronavirus.

Minaj had recently tweeted that she would probably get vaccinated at some point.

On Wednesday, she wrote that she had been invited to the White House.

There she will ask questions on behalf of the people who have been ridiculed for simply being human.
