Last year, a man who received a blood product made from blood donations was infected with hepatitis B virus, and the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare reviewed the guidelines and if the person who donated blood was found to be infected, all blood products go back to the past. Decided to collect.

Last year, a male patient in his 60s developed hepatitis at a medical institution in Japan, and as a result of an investigation by the Japanese Red Cross Society, it was confirmed that hepatitis B virus was infected due to the administered blood products.

This blood product was made from blood donated by another person who was already infected, but 84 days have passed since the blood donation when this person's infection was found, and the national government defines the recovery period as a guideline. It was not recovered because it was over 72 days.

In response to this, the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare held a survey meeting by experts on the 14th to consider future measures.

If an infection was found in a person who donated blood, it was proposed and approved to review the guidelines to retroactively collect all blood products made from that person's blood.

The Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare will soon revise the guidelines and make them known to related organizations and prefectures.
