The number of hospitalized coronavirus patients, as well as that of patients admitted to critical care, continues to decline, according to figures published by Public Health France on Tuesday.

With 577 admissions in 24 hours, 9,739 people with Covid are currently treated in French hospitals, against 9,986 the day before, falling below the 10,000 mark, for the first time since August 15.

Almost 10,000 new cases daily

The decline is also confirmed in critical care services, which treat the most serious cases including intensive care: they have 2,000 patients (103 fewer than Monday) including 577 new admitted. Last Tuesday, these services welcomed 2,259 patients. The disease killed 96 people in 24 hours (86 the day before), bringing the total death toll to 115,752 since the start of the epidemic.

The contamination figures also show an improvement, with 10,327 new cases recorded - they were more than 14,500 a week ago.

And the positivity rate, which measures the proportion of positive cases compared to the number of people tested, drops below 2%, to 1.9%.

Since the start of the vaccination campaign in France, 49,768,927 people have received at least one injection (i.e. 73.8% of the total population) and 46,926,666 people now have a complete vaccination schedule, which represents 69.6 % of total population.
