The death of the Syrian "King of Ataba" Bassam Al-Bitar

Yesterday, the Syrian artist, Bassam Al-Bitar, died, after a struggle with illness, at the age of 50.

Lovers and devotees of folklore mourned Ibn Lattakia Bassam Al-Bitar, who was nicknamed by his fans as “King of Ataba”, as “for 20 years he had a distinguished experience in folk singing, and many of the Ataba and mountain style singers tried to imitate him and present his songs in their concerts, but he remained a voice distinguished in this field,” according to the Syrian News Agency (SANA).

The late artist (born in 1971) was honored by the Syrian Ministry of Culture in 2019 during the Coastal Heritage Song Festival, which was held at the Dummar Cultural Complex.

Bassam Al-Bitar was known as one of the beautiful voices that occupied a place in the coastal singing scene, as there are no occasions without his popular songs. However, he did not achieve great fame, compared to other voices.
