The 2021 Haut-Rhin seniors' Olympics began on Tuesday during a day of meetings in Masevaux, reports France 3 Grand Est.

During this sports tournament, around thirty nursing homes in the department will compete in six events combining precision and flexibility, such as shooting on goal, darts or throwing rings.

During these days, the sporting events take place in the morning.

The five to seven teams from the different Ephad then have lunch together.

Finally, the day ends with an afternoon show.

For Marie Colin, organizer of the event and project manager at the European Collectivity of Alsace, it is thus "a way to find a little flexibility and to get out of isolation and depression".

The opportunity to meet after confinement

These Olympics have been held in the department since 2019, but have taken on a new meaning since the Covid-19.

"Our goal is to offer activities adapted to these residents who have been confined for months" explained Marie Colin.

Before these meetings, the teams had the opportunity to train in their respective establishments with the help of a teacher in adapted physical activities.

As for the winners, they receive chocolates and small gifts.

They will also have the opportunity to meet again during the final, which will take place in June 2022.
