It has been 20 years since the terrorist attacks on the United States, which killed nearly 3,000 people, in 11 days.

A woman living in Nagano Prefecture, who lost her niece in the terrorist attack, told NHK that it was important to know about terrorism and international affairs so that the tragedy would not repeat again.

Twenty years ago, on September 11, 2001, the terrorist attacks in the United States killed a total of 2,977 people, including 24 Japanese.

Akemi Ota (61), who lives in Otari Village, Nagano Prefecture, lost Sanae Meinomori (27 years old at the time), who was visiting the World Trade Center Building in New York on a business trip 20 years ago, in the terrorist attacks on the United States. ..

Akemi still cherishes Sanae's hobby of paintings at home, and said that she wants to work at the United Nations, especially for collages of photographs of people of various races. I feel that Sanae-san's wish for peace is included.

Twenty years after the terrorist attack, Akemi is worried that the situation will worsen as the United States ends its military operations in Afghanistan, and that terrorism will occur again.

Akemi Ota said, "I'm still worried about what I can do, but I think it's important for many people in Japan to know why terrorism occurs in the world."
