Liu Shimu, the protagonist of the Marvel movie 'The Legend of Shang-Chi and Ten Rings', has been accused of criticizing the Chinese Communist Party.

On the 9th (local time), Taiwan News, an English-language news outlet in Taiwan, reported that "It is known that Simu Liu criticized the Chinese Communist Party in an interview in the past, sparking anger among the Chinese."

What became a problem was the 2017 CBC 'What's Your Story?'

It was an interview.

At the time, Liu Simu said, "When I was young, I heard from my parents who grew up in a communist system that many people died of starvation."

He then added his own immigration story that his parents, who wanted a free life, moved to Canada.

Controversy has spread when a captured copy of this interview was posted on an Internet bulletin board with a tendency toward Chinese nationalism. The video received over 1,600 comments. Most of the comments criticized Simu Liu, but there were also comments defending it, saying that he was just stating the truth.

As the controversy escalated, CBC removed Simu Liu's interview from its website.

Liu Simu was born in Harbin, China, but moved to Canada at the age of five. He made his face in the sitcom 'Kim's Convenience Store', which aired in 2016, and is enjoying worldwide popularity as the protagonist of the Marvel movie 'The Legend of Shang-Chi and Ten Rings'.

'Shang-Chi' was released in North America and has grossed over $90 million so far, but a Chinese release is yet to be determined. The Chinese government refused to distribute and screen the film, citing the story and composition of the original cartoon. This is because we judge that the film goes against the ideology pursued by China and the ideology of Chinese nationalism.
